Job Summary


The Department of Recreation and Parks Department develops and implements quality recreation and leisure programs, activities, and events for all citizens of Annapolis, regardless of financial, economic, or educational status. Additionally, the Department maintains and preserves the City’s park system, open spaces, and trails.


This position is located in the Stanton Community Center in the heart of Annapolis, at 92 W. Washington Street, where community is everything.

The starting salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000 based on experience and other qualifications.

The individual must be available to work after hours, weekends or evenings as the job may require from time to time.


This position performs administrative and supervisory work for planning and delivering a comprehensive recreation program at the community center. The position manages and coordinates the daily operations of the Community Center to include facility maintenance and minor repair, space allocation and scheduling, emergency preparedness, and safety programs for assigned areas. 


Essential Job Functions

Assists the Recreation Leader with developing, coordinating, and implementing comprehensive recreation programs and services for after school and out-of-school youth programs, senior activities and services for all age groups and abilities.

Plans, assigns, supervises, and coordinates the work of recreation community center personnel; participates in the selection, training, appraisal, and discipline of assigned personnel; and creates staff schedules.

Collaborates with facility maintenance staff to assure proper cleaning, maintenance and safety at the Community Centers.

Coordinates daily facility use for special event set-ups, room arrangements and program requirements, coordinates procurement for recreation equipment and supplies.

Enforces facility policies and regulations, accurately document and report accidents, injuries, and incidents.

Serves as building safety officer; ensures compliance with applicable health codes and OSHA safety requirements.

Prepares safety policies and procedures; implements corrective action for safety violations; and coordinates periodic safety inspections.

Serves as building emergency preparedness coordinator, creates, implements and monitors facility action plans and policies.

Consults with the Office of Emergency Management to maintain emergency readiness; conducts emergency drills.

Maintains records for recreation programs to include financial documents, program attendance, incidents, maintenance, and payroll.

Prepares annual operating budget and oversees fundraising committees for center activities.

Performs other related job duties as assigned.


Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws governing fire, health, and safety standards.

Knowledge of recreation ordinance, rules, regulations, policies, procedures and practices established by the City.

Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to budgeting, staffing and planning recreation activities.

Knowledge of techniques and methods of the City’s supervision and personnel management practices.

Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other safety precautions for public recreation programs and activities.

Knowledge of First Aid and CPR applications.

Ability to prioritize and work collaboratively with assigned staff.

Ability to promote customer service focus in forging cooperative public relations.

Ability to use initiative and exercise sound independent judgment.

Ability to operate modern office equipment

Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and activity participants.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Education, Business, Public Administration or related field; and two (2) years of progressive experience in recreation facility maintenance and recreation programming to include supervision of full-time recreation or facility maintenance employees.

This position is designated as Safety Sensitive due to the  tasks or duties that the employer reasonably believes could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task, other individuals, and or may lead to damage to property. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing to include pre-employment testing.

Special Qualifications:

Possession of First Aid and CPR Certification.

Possession of a valid Driver’s License.

Certified Professional in Parks and Recreation is preferred

Consent to chemical substance screening consistent with mandated Federal, State, and City guidelines and programs, to include random tests for the detection of drug or alcohol use.

Preferred Qualifications:

Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
